HK stocks erase opening loss, up in early trade
HONG KONG, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Hong Kong stocks were slightly firmer on Wednesday morning after light buying for selected blue chips helped erase opening losses, brokers said.

The Hang Seng Index was up 16 points or 0.17 percent at 9,518 after recovering from a 69 point loss earlier.

''The market lacks clear direction and there is no concrete good news around, therefore, prices opened down following New York and Tokyo stocks,'' said Kinson Au, research manager at Asia Financial Securities.

But selling was limited and investors buying selected blue chips helped the market rise in early trade, he added.
