Ed,

I agree with you. The timing and content of today's press release was superb. I also posted my impression on Yahoo that I thought it might mean an Ancor icon on the desktop of some important software. And I don't think it will be Mr. Gig.

Questions: If EMC is selling Brocade's switch, why isn't Brocade a member of EMC's group to promote interoperability? If Legato is a member of EMC's group, why are they working on a separate effort with Brocade?

Seems a little confusing to me, unless EMC is dropping Brocade, and I seriously doubt that that is happening.

Welly welly well Ed,

I too was pretty excited about today's press. I was overly overly excited when I read the Exec VP's comments from EMC about the MKIIs...but then I read the Emulex and Vixel press releases and this guy praised them too. This guy was taken out for a lot of beers, I think. ;-) Still good to see some decent progress.

don't tell me you're also at the M. Vellocet with Lucy,

Ed,

I am excited about this announcement also. IMO this is more than PR. Joint alliances such as these are important. In order to make it work, hardware providers need to comply to the rules. When certain error conditions arise, some specific 'MIB' values are expected in some small storage save area. It would be then, up to the software providers to come up with the 'ease of use', 'functionality', etc. In other words, FC standard implementation would be nice. The absence of Brocade had me wonder if their FC implementations were not entirely standard compliance.
