If I remember correctly, Rambus management does not agree that the volume production cost differential of RDRAM to SDRAM will be more than 10% - plus Tate made a sound (IMO) case at the annual meeting that the actual system cost with RDRAM for equivalent or better performance will be lower (because the wider pipes in the SDRAM/DDR technology require wasted chips).

Would Intel be investing what looks to be in excess of a billion dollars in the fabs if Camino were not imminent, and therefore Intel is concerned about insufficient supply of RDRAM and RAC components in the near term?

Finally, no matter how much the weaker fabs whine, they are going to be toast if they don't get on board - and they know it!

Rambus is providing a de facto standard that is open (independent of Intel) - the fabs are the ones who are going to benefit.

BTW, I know from a lot of personal experience, that you can always get someone to cough up the quote you want to support any argument.

Just my opinion!

Bernard

I beginning to feel that RDAMS will not hit the market in full force till 4th qr, this would mean we will not see any kind of real bottom line rev.s until next year.
