Although Intel's design of AGP is poor for transfering textures, SGI has shown that one can make a killer graphics system for the PC that uses a unified memory architecture (UMA) exclusively. If you ever get the chance to see a demo of SGI's new NT workstations, I recommend it. They are very impressive. I saw one last week. The machine in the demo had 1GB of RAM with 276MB used for textures. And, the SGI's UMA architecture provides 3.0GB/s of bandwidth between the graphics processor and main memory. That's the equivalent onboard bandwidth of the Voodoo3!.
