Peter,
News from SUF today:

Attention Business Editors:

SouthernEra Welcomes New Partners at Marsfontein

TORONTO, Feb. 3 /CNW/ - SouthernEra Resources Limited (SUF-TSE) is
pleased to announce its support for the initiative by De Beers Consolidated
Mines Ltd. to include a South African based Black Empowerment Group as their
Partner on the Marsfontein Joint Venture. On January 29, 1999 Investec Bank
Limited of South Africa announced that De Beers has agreed to sell a portion
of its interest in the Marsfontein Joint Venture to a South African based
group of Black Economic Empowerment Partners.
The Marsfontein project is currently held 60% by De Beers and 40% by
SouthernEra.
The new transaction will see De Beers transfer its 60% interest in the
Marsfontein Joint Venture into a new company (Newco) effective January 1,
1999. A 49% interest in Newco will then be sold to the Black Empowerment
Partners. The transaction does not affect SouthernEra's 40% interest in the
Joint Venture which remains unchanged.
The new partners will bring an appropriate blend of skills and experience
to Newco to ensure that it is well placed to meet its future objectives, and
SouthernEra is proud to be associated with the group of companies and
individuals involved in the new organization.

Also, there are a lot of stories about the plane crash you mentioned.
No one is giving out names, but it was a Russian cargo plane, apparently overloaded.

Hello Peter: Here are some details on that plane crash, from Associated Press:

Angola Cargo Plane Crashes On Homes

By CASIMIRO SIONA Associated Press Writer

LUANDA, Angola (AP) - A burning cargo plane slammed into a shantytown outside Angola's capital today, killing at least 28 people.

The aircraft exploded on impact, demolishing five houses in Casenga, six miles northwest of Luanda's international airport.
Seventeen of the dead had been on the ground.

Civil aviation director Branco Ferreira said the Antonov cargo plane crashed about 30 minutes after taking off on a flight to Lukapa in northeastern Angola. It was returning to Luanda after the crew detected an engine problem.

One engine was on fire as the plane went down, eyewitnesses said.

Hours later, the wreckage was scattered amid shanties made of brick and rusting corrugated iron. Only the plane's tail section was intact.

Rescue teams retrieved the bodies of the four Russian crew members and seven passengers, believed to be Angolans, from the wreckage, as well as 17 people on the ground.

Charred corpses were loaded onto the back of trucks and covered with blankets.

The plane was owned by the private Angolan company SavanAir.

Since 1996, five Russian-built Antonov aircraft have crashed in Angola, killing 39 people. Officials blamed poor maintenance for previous accidents.

Re the Accident in Angola

The aircraft was an AN 12 which was being operated by Southern Air, a charter company which is in no way related to SUF. The charter client ,I believe was ITM which is British/South African. I hope this clears up any misinformation which has often adversely affected the thread.

Cheers
