COGECO Cable Canada Inc., Canada's fourth largest cable television company, selected
the MainStreetXpress™ 36150 Access Switch to provide high-speed Internet service over
an OC3 (155Mbit) asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) backbone network in Quebec. In this phase of deployment, the state-of-the-art network comprises MainStreetXpress
36150 access switches at centers in Montreal, St-Hyacinthe, Drummondville and
Trois-Rivières. The switches are equipped with OC3 interfaces which utilize powerful 1550
nm optics that integrate SONET long-haul transmission onto the ATM switching fabric. The1550 nm optics carry signals over a distance of up to 120 kilometers.COGECO Cable selected the Newbridge ATM solution for a number of important reasons,
including low initial cost, a unified network management system, integral SONET interfaces,
and the ability to consolidate voice, data and video broadcast services on a single broadband
switching platform. The MainStreetXpress 36150 system is managed by the sophisticated
MainStreetXpress 46020 Network Manager."
