I think there's some chance they'll lose the printer market. I recently went shopping with a neighbor who needed a new printer, and the slickest thing we found was by Lexmark; HP wasn't even in the running.

What makes it worse is that they have so many eggs in that basket (printers).

But that's JMHO.

re reasons for pessimism.

Isn't that all well known information and already priced in giving HWP a lower P/E than Dell & Compaq? According to Yahoo, Compaq has a higher market cap and lost money. P/E at Sun is 2x and Dell's is 4x. Only IBM is similarly priced and it well off its highs.

I don't see HP as cheap, but not overvalued on a relative basis. My suspicion is it will look good going forward due to easy comparisons which has usually helped its price. Then again, if it gets back in the $80s, it can't afford to miss.

Comments?

btw, I sold some at $82 recently and still am overweighted and want to reduce more now that I don't work there anymore. Tax man is greedy so I take my time.

I also bought some puts but for March since I will be out of the country the last half of February. Are their earnings still scheduled for release on Feb 17? That is two days before the Feb options expire if correct. I wish I had more confidence in my former employer of some 27 years but I agree with everything said in the last few posts. Maybe more of this same performance will at least get us a decent CEO!
