Fonix and Lucent Technologies Inferno Venture to Offer Fonix Handwriting Recognition Software to Information Appliance Market PR Newswire - February 02, 1999 21:23
WOBURN, Mass., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Fonix Corporation, the innovation leader in human-computer interaction technology, today announced that the Inferno venture of Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) will offer Fonix's Allegro handwriting recognition capabilities as part of its Inferno(TM) operating system.
Through this agreement, Inferno customers can create Inferno-enabled appliances, such as Internet screen phones, with accurate handwriting input capabilities. According to Fonix President CEO Thomas A. Murdock, Allegro's software writing style provider nearly 100 percent input accuracy and, unlike voice recognition, it is also private, allowing the user to listen or converse while taking notes.
Inferno Software Solutions vice president of marketing, Vince Lesch, noted that, "Offering Allegro handwriting recognition software provides another value-added service to our customers, who are competing in the very robust information appliance market."
About Fonix Allegro Writing
Accurate handwriting input is becoming the preferred method of entering data in handheld and mobile devices.
Allegro essentially provides 99% accuracy, is easy to learn, and fast to use. Unlike other recognizers, Allegro does not require users to memorize a new way of writing the letters of the alphabet. Users will find Allegro natural in appearance and easy to remember. Allegro also enables input of upper case characters, digits, punctuation and symbols, as well as accented characters.
"Combining Inferno's flexible operating system with Allegro handwriting recognition is a key step in Fonix's efforts to lead the convergence of human computer interaction tools," said Murdock. "Together, Lucent Technologies and Fonix Corporation will make human computer interaction more simple and reliable."
