CHRIS ---Another little contract ---keep adding--- Lucent Technologies to Provide Network Plus With Next Generation Switching and Access Technology for New Integrated Telecommunications Networks in a Three-Year, $30 Million Agreement February 03, 1999 10:14 AM QUINCY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1999--Network Plus, a full-service telecommunications provider, has awarded Lucent Technologies a three-year, $30 million contract to provide the switching and transmission infrastructure for a state-of-the-art optical networking expansion. The new network will allow Network Plus to provide its customers with one-stop access to advanced voice and data services including private line and Internet telephony capabilities, as well as connectivity to long distance and international services. The new network architecture will have as its cornerstone Lucent Technologies' 5ESS(R) AnyMedia (tm) switching platform. Customers will directly connect with Network Plus using Lucent's latest integrated AnyMedia Fast access management product line. Network Plus will deliver high-speed fiber optic services with the WaveStar(tm) optical networking system, Lucent's dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system and Lucent's synchronous optical network (SONET) technologies. The first application of these high-bandwidth technologies will be available on Network Plus' fiber routes linking Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. "We have defined a 'smartest-build' strategy and we selected Lucent and its technology because of the responsiveness to our unique requirements and the flexibility to evolve with us," said Rob Hale, President and CEO of Network Plus. Network Plus plans to have the first switch in service in Boston in the spring of this year. A second switch is scheduled for New York City, also in the spring.
