Those distant strikes may suggest a major contract win, rather than immediate takeover. Who the hell knows? I am long for now on this breakout above 23. Let's see if she can hold. If something is imminent, it will.

The quickest way for someone holding millions of shares of a stock to make big bux on them is to buy a whole bunch of calls, making everyone think that "something is imminent" or pick your rumor-of-the-week for Ciena. Not saying that that is indeed what's happening here, but I wouldn't rule it out either.

This sort of options activity seems to happen frequently w/ Ciena, although every long, including me, always hopes "this time is different".
