Yet more on ominous news on those pesky global linkages/interdependencies. I suppose someone from the other side of the argument (gas comes from the gas station crowd) should call Tenet, Gershwin and some of these "intelligence" types and tell the to lighten up. This type of y2k "hype" could cause serious concern if not outright panic. Their VCRs will work just fine...I mean what?

Europe could face natural gas shortage because of the Y2K bug: CIA

WASHINGTON, Feb 2 (AFP) - Europe could face a natural gas shortage if
its largest supplier, Russia's Gazprom, fails to eradicate the millenium
bug, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director George Tenet said
Tuesday.
Speaking before the Senate's armed services committee, Tenet warned that
the Y2K bug could interrupt energy flows "in certain countries."
He cited Europe as a potential victim of the millenium bug because it
receives "more than one-third" of its natural gas from Russia.
"In our judgment, foreign countries trail the United States in
addressing the Y2K problems by at least several months, and in many
cases by much longer," he said.
"The lowest level of Y2K preparedness is evident in eastern Europe,
Russia, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and several Asian
countries, including China," he added.
