There most certainly is a rational reason for it. Gold is the most widely watched indicator of currency debasement. It is a symbol of central bankers credibility, a symbol of the credibility of fiat money.

Would find it of great interest if you and Bill Murphy, who appears to be quite experienced in the world of finance with a great many contacts across the globe (much like yourself), could have a cyber debate, especially on the gold lease issue.

You both hold such diametrically opposed views, would be a most interesting discussion.
