NEW TRIPOLI, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1999--The CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization) market will resume its skyrocketing track in 1999, according to the report CMP Technology: Competition, Products, Markets, recently published by The Information Network, a New Tripoli, PA-based market research company.

''The CMP market is outpacing the rest of the semiconductor equipment market,'' notes Dr. Robert N. Castellano, President of The Information Network. ''CMP polisher sales will grow 35.7% in 1999, compared to 10.3% for the entire front-end equipment market. In 1998, the CMP market grew 3.2% while the entire semiconductor
equipment market dropped 20%.''

The merger of IPEC (NASDAQ:IPEC - news) and SpeedFam (NASDAQ:SFAM - news) moves the combined companies into the number one spot in unit shipments and number two in revenues. Growth in the CMP slurry market will even outpace the polisher market, growing 37.9% in 1999. Cabot (NYSE:CBT - news) leads in the marketplace.
