I resized w98 down to 502mb. The used amount came to 490mb since I have 2 clones of NT in the w98>DI directory compressed 40% I think. My NT backup install needs 117mb free so I'll have to create the DI archive partition before doing the NT install so there will be enough room for it.

Don't forget the swap file. 502MB-490MB leaves 12MB unused space which is not enough room for the swap file to work properly. Also if you have a browser in the KOT it needs room for the cache. I do not know an optimum size for available space. I would feel comfortable with 100MB.

Once you move the Drive Images to the extended partition it will free up some space as you indicate. With two operating systems and a little planning for the future you may be better off with a 700 to a gig primary. With an 8 gig KOT I would probably opt for the 1 gig primary. (If you want to try the clone of the KOT primary onto the tail end of the NT drive in a hidden partition...an idea that has not received any support but has some merit as an interim KOT restore option you would want to keep the KOT partition small as you would lose an equal amount of space on IDE1)

So the decision of the moment is how big to make a partition for DI Images. I'll look back in your posts to see if you mentioned that.

I don't recall making a recommendation although I might have.

I can not think of a reason to divide the extended partition. Except you have the 2 gig FAT limitation. I believe you can make a full 7 gig +/- extended partition and then a 2 gig logical(PM will let you know if you can not.) That will leave free space inside the extended for additional 2 gig partitions. Unless someone knows of a need to have an NTFS partition on the KOT.

This partition will have to be FAT to store images of NT right?

I think you can store images on an NTFS partition. The problem is you can not restore them from an NTFS partition. So the answer is if you want to restore images make it FAT.

I think your mystery will remain unsolved as do many others. My concern was that you would not be able to resize as PM thought the drive was full. You proved otherwise.

I would have suggested resizing first as FAT has the 2 gig limitation. It looks like PM did it for you.
