No, it doesn't (unless you define simultaneously as over several hours). They can't possibly handle hundreds and hundreds of thousands of web server connections even nearly simultaneously much less that kind of order placement.

I agree that volume wasn't the cause of today's problem for them.

But capacity is a problem with all of the online brokerages, especially in the first 30 minutes of trading. So it is a fair question nonetheless.

And when the President of an online brokerage makes such a completely unrealistic claim, they ought to be called on it. Because they shouldn't hype that way in the first place.

Also, these online brokerages that make software changes midweek and without sufficient testing are a disgrace.
