Cisco Systems (CSCO) plans to push its switches into small and midsize businesses, according to the vice president of the company's enterprise line, Jayshree Ullal. Cisco sells most of its products, which provide the plumbing for the Internet, to Fortune 1000 companies. This strategy broadens the company's potential customer base and comes as rival Lucent (LU) sharpens its competitive edge by buying Ascend Communications (ASND). Not all investors were impressed with the presentation. Wendy Snow, an investor from Sausalito, Calif.-based Lamoreaux Partners, said she wanted to learn more about the company's overall strategy and how it will compete in the data switching market. "As an investor, I didn't get a lot out of that," she said.
