Elmer,

Re: "I wonder if Maxwell quit posting because he knew about a yield crash
out there in MegaFlop25?"

Surely Elmer, Maxwell would have told his friends on the AMD thread ... Or at
least put it on the AMD "private thread". You know when I have a concern
about AMD's process capability, I always immediately put it on this
thread. <ggg>

Make It So,
Yousef

AMD shares tumble amid rumors
on cancelled appearances

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Advanced Micro
Devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD - news) shares tumbled almost 14 percent Wednesday after the
chip maker confirmed it has cancelled two upcoming appearances at technology investment
conferences amid a slew of rumors about upcoming negative news.

Scott Allen, an Advanced Micro Devices spokesman, could not comment any further except
to say that AMD had cancelled its appearance at the NationsBanc Montgomery Securities
technology conference Thursday morning. He also said AMD cancelled its appearance at a
Goldman Sachs technology conference next Tuesday.

''We are not adding anything to the record other than confirming that we cancelled,'' Allen
said.

Meanwhile, traders and analysts speculated on what could have prompted AMD's
cancellations. Most of the speculation centered on AMD's Vantis Corp. subsidiary. Late
Tuesday, AMD said Richard Forte, president and CEO of Vantis, resigned abruptly.

''I would think it is something related to Vantis,'' said Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Piper
Jaffray, adding that he believes Forte was forced to resign. ''That division is underperforming
and someone has to take the fall.''

Vantis develops programmable logic chips for communications and industrial applications.
Kumar said that Vantis's revenues have been flat at an annual run rate of about $220 million
for the past three years and that some of the company's products have missed their shipping
dates.

''It was initially thought of as an IPO or an outright sale, so it is clearly not in the best of
conditions for either one of those options,'' Kumar said. ''It represents 10 percent of sales,
but it is a drag on earnings.''
