... Quite possibly right but at least we've got it behind us finally, so perhaps a storm cloud has cleared so the share price may start heading north instead of south again.

If we have another min-melt in the tech sector as you speculate might happen, they will have botched it big time by not selling five million shares! Seriously, though, I would say the jury is out because if they use the proceeds to acquire a company that is a good fit at a good price then it was a wise decision. As others have pointed out this move has favored AMAT, NVLS, TER, KLAC and a few others at all time highs and as a consequence there are still good acquisition candidates out there in the public sector. I suspect it's even better in the private sector.
