Colin,

I know you are much more expert in this area than am I, but how can you instruct a broker to identify specific shares you wish to sell that are held in another account? How could each of the brokers keep the 1099s straight? It seems to me that if shares are held in two different accounts, the shares that are actually sold should determine your basis. I don't see haw it would be practical to do otherwise.
