The Ascend TNT was put together a couple of years ago by engineers who where still trying to spell DS-3. Now, they understand OC-192 and their talent far outstrips current product offerings. But they have market share, direct sales relationships, and new products in the pipeline. PAIR has a small window of opportunity to get its own foot in the door. I am long in PAIR because I believe they have a shot. But they better start selling soon.

Hal, so in plain English, let me see if I'm reading this correctly: Avidia has a higher port density and employs state-of-the art technology.

This is consistent with what management has been telling us in the CCs and in the (few) press releases. In fact, Pascoe has indicated that PAIR has the highest port density of any access concentrator currently on the market. This bodes well from the standpoint that a single unit from PAIR can do more than what several units from a competitor can. This will save shelf space; reduces power consumption; and allows for other expansion at the central office, including more DSL lines.

Do you know if the Ascend unit is based on CAP or DMT? Avidia is a DMT DSLAM that can be configured to accommodate CAP, as well as HDSL, fiber, and private LANs/WANs using a reconfigured Ethernet card (read this way - for home networking). Pretty impressive stuff IMHO.

Pascoe, start selling!
