QUESTION OF THE DAY: On this day in 1858, thousands of fortune hunters were drawn to the Fraser River area of British Columbia. What was the attraction?

ANSWER: Gold was discovered along the Fraser River of BC, 141 years ago today, attracting thousands of fortune hunters to Canada"s West Coast. Hundreds of prospectors died making the trip up the swift-running Fraser River without ever seeing a speck of gold. But others panned fortunes from the sandbars at such places as Hope, Boston Bar and what would later become Barkerville.
