Actually it should be a function of the message board. If all news items were given a tag, such as "news:"http://www.news.sunw.com (the tag is the "news:" part without the quotes, not the entire URL. I just made the URL up, so don't try to click on it.<g>), SI could search the thread for such tags, compile a list that could be accessed by choosing a NEWS button above messages the way EARNINGS are now done. This way all the user would have to do is enter the tag before the URL rather than having to go to two threads to post an item. Preferences could set on an individual basis as to how far back in time, or number of messages, the news search should go.

Is this a good idea? Should it be submitted to SI? How is that done?

Just thinking.
