Buster, that was a really dopey post. You didn't pass on the Sony drive because it's expensive.....fact is, you can't buy one at any price. After a hundred or so sales, Sony pulled the plug on the SciFi drive. Might be awhile before you get that new PC if you're going to wait for one with the Sony thingie built in.

I've seen some really lame, transparent bashing stories here in the last 2 1/2 years........and buddy, yours unequivocally takes the cake.

Just curious, why didn't you predict that the Swan drive will be the king of the hill rather than the "SONY" drive. The only difference between them is one has never seen the light of day (probably used a lot of investor's money though for development), and the other did see the light of day (to the tune of 100 drives sold) and was recalled because of a "design" problem with the heads.....somewhat like a groundhog that saw his shadow, returned to his borough, and may never see the light of day again!!! What did they find out after only 100 were sold that they didn't know before? How long does it take to sell 100 drives......5 minutes?

Meanwhile, Iomega sold 3.4 million more drives last quarter, further entrenching Zip in the mind share of the masses of consumers out there.

Buster -

Funny, there's something about your style that reminds me of Rocky.

Now that we know he (you?) posts under multiple identities as a matter of course, it's easy to become suspicious about people who suddenly show up with a negative opinion. Another reason to suspect you might be Rocky, "Buster", is that your reasoning is no better than his. You're saying that Iomega is on life support because within one year:

1) Sony is going to be able to work out their technical problems with HiFD

2) They will be able to get the price down enough so that people will buy them built-in with new computers

3) All Zip owners will then switch because they will already have gotten their money's worth out of their Zips.

One word, Buster. Ridiculous. Each additional year it takes Sony to get HiFD off the ground means another 10 million or more new Zip drives out there, and more importantly, even less need for backward compatibility.

Why should 30 million Zip drive owners suddenly switch to HiFD? Will they all decide they really want to replace all their disks? For what? The ability to read 1.44MB disks? Everyone already has that. For 200MB capacity? They can already get 250MB in a drive that's compatible with all their old Zip media.

Whoever you are, it would be healthier to do something positive for a change. What's the benefit of trashing IOM?

- Allen

PS: I'm glad you do see that the Zip drive represents a good product at a fair price right now.
