greg,

Check out metricom.

I visited them today(- by the way-talking ASICs).

They offer a 28K wireless solution.

It is available in the bay area.

It's a paul allen start-up (going on for 10 years or so).

Their service is called richochet i believe.

metricom.com i believe or do a yahoo search.

Regards,

Kash

greg - Re: " Paul does anyone make an wireless internet connector for laptops which eleminates the need for hard wire to a phone plug?"

There may be several, but the one I'm familiar with is Metricom - their product is called Ricochet.

Metricom is in Mountain View CA I believe.

They supply the Ricochet wireless Modem ($200 - $300) and provide the ISP service as well ($30+/- per month)

Two "gotchas" - 1. You have to be located near their receivers and 2. Modem speed is 28K TOPS - the last I looked.
