You are missing the point
As you probably know, Eric, the thread moron would not get the point if it walked up and bit him in the rear!
Seriously though, I am getting the feeling the Cisco might do what Dell did after their third quarter report last year---drift for a while. I don't expect any runup in it like we have had the last months until a split after the next quarter. Things are going to get dull around here, IMO.

Eric. Don't argue with the thread moron. jach has only one speed--reverse.

Thread. The shorts and CSCO haters have flooded this thread with a bunch of crap.

CSCO did not "sell off". CSCO's strategy of buying technology is the only strategy that makes sense in todays networking environment. JC watched Wang Labs squander its incredible lead because of its NIH syndrome in R&D. He sees that CSCO's ability to spot new innovations and buy them is cutting CSCO's concept-to-market time by 75%. He is tapping the innovative energy that couldn't possibly be duplicated in one company.

The idea that CSCO's profits are being generated by "write offs" is ridiculous. Those of us watching the networking market place (as opposed to the stock market) know that CSCO is kicking butt in the market, growing like crazy, and making big profits on every sale. The company is full of smart, driven people from top to bottom with very high performance standards.

Relax, longs. You own the most successful company in the fastest growing market place this world has ever seen!!!!

The point is margin will come down and IBM is operating at very healthy margin that is substainable in the long run. With all these competitions and services that need to be provided in the Telecom and Home mkts margins will come down. Remember, IBM is 10 times BIGGER than CSCO and its market values is LESS than CSCO. Go figure, Sutro is smart. Why should one get CSCO at these lofty prices when one can get IBM that is 10 times bigger (not to mention all these pataents and great R&D, do you know IBM has just PhDs probably more than the number of csco engs) at a lower price. It's like getting a MBZ S600 for the price of a Chevy Nova. imo.

IBM is not just 10 times bigger but their overall total profit is much much higher than CSCO.
