Yes, but ....
I think it should be pointed out that stock options don't last forever. There is an expiration. MD has many shares which are approaching the state where they would be worthless if not excersised. Of course he could excersise the option without selling the stock, but the basis for a ten year old option would be pennies so that all of the appreciation would be regular income anyway.
