Strong Growth Continues At USAi
Home Shopping Network, USA Network, The Sci-Fi Channel and Ticketmaster Hit Historical Highs in Q4
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 4, 1999-- USA Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: USAI - news) announced today its financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 1998. On a pro forma basis, USAi generated 15% higher EBITDA from its cash-generating divisions in the fourth quarter as compared to the same period in 1997. Some of the many highlights from the period include:

-- Home Shopping Network achieved the most profitable quarter in its

22-year history. Core electronic retailing EBITDA reached $60.9

million in Q4, a 42% increase over 1997's fourth quarter. HSN's

continuing growth stems from a broader selection of quality

products, strong sales from special events, and a successful

holiday gift strategy that helped drive record monthly sales.

-- USA Network, for the seventh time during this decade, finished the

year as the highest-rated cable network in primetime. Popular

original programs lifted USA's average primetime rating to 2.3 in

Q4, a 10% increase over the same period in 1997.

-- The Sci-Fi Channel added 5.9 million homes during the year to

eclipse the 50-million mark, and its burgeoning slate of original

programming helped boost the Q4 average primetime rating by 50% to

a 0.9. The continued momentum has begun to impact Sci-Fi's bottom

line, driving 93% higher EBITDA in 1998 as compared to the prior

year.

-- Ticketmaster Online - CitySearch (NASDAQ: TMCS - news), of which USAi

owns approximately 60%, achieved 143% higher revenue in Q4 driven

by triple-digit growth from each of its business segments. In

particular, online ticketing sales surged more than 160% due to

Ticketmaster driving approximately 6% of its ticket sales online

in Q4 (versus 2% in the same period in 1997).
