You are right about one thing. Chambers didn't split Cisco because he knew it was overvalued. However, that means that when it comes back down to earth, the smart ones have a buying opportunity.

To compare IBM and CSCO:

CSCO made $2.95/share in its life time (after all write-offs). IBM made $2.47/share just the last quarter. AND no write-offs.

One can argue that the growth is important, but it is difficult to measure earnings growth when 1/2 of it is taken as one-time charge - every quarter.

Still trying to understand how CSCO has become such a Wall Street darling.
