Freeus...Brown has good telephone backup, but as with al other deep discounters, it slows down with the volume goes up. First hour of trading is slow but acceptable. IMO

**OT** Brown & Co. Yes, they have an auto phone system (where you punch in symbol, amts, etc.) That's handy for when I'm away from my computer. Then there's the old fashion actual human broker method. The prices for using the humans has recently gone up, something like $15/trade. I always use the web or phone, I don't like talking to people. The web site is really easy to use....

In addition to the access methods Ashley mentions (web/live broker/
phone touch-tone system), Brown & Co also has direct modem dial-in,
where you select "buy" or "sell", etc, off a text menu (using
terminal emulator). I'm on a Mac and use ClarisWorks' communications
program to access it. I never use it, but tried it out.
I've heard that if phone touch-tone is down, so is the dial-in,
same back-end?

I like Brown - fast, clean web site.
