02/04/1999 - China Launches Hybrid-Electric Car Production?
China - A Chinese company, Huatong Motors, is reportedly launching
production of a hybrid-electric vehicle early this year, according to
the Rocky Mountain Institute's newsletter, which cites Modern Plastics.
The four-door "Paradigm" hybrid EV reportedly has a composite/plastic
chassis and body and weighs just 1,793 pounds - about half what a
conventional car weighs. It reportedly achieves fuel economy of 60 miles per gallon. According to the article, the Paradigm was designed by San Antonio, Texas-based Automotive Design & Composites and the majority of its parts are currently made in the United States. The cars, for the time being, will be assembled at Huatong's Sichuan Province plant.
Huatong reportedly plans to sell 5,000 Paradigms this year and 30,000
annually by 2002. The car is aimed at the Chinese market; a price has
not yet been announced.

Faster than a speeding BAAT? HAHAAH!!!
