Kevin,

Re: "AMD needs a rapid and flawless (speedgrade-wise) ramp of the K6-3 or
this stock will be dead money until Y2K."

Well Kevin, you should have listened earlier to Yousef ... I warned against
a "rapid/flawless" speed ramp. Oh well, maybe next time you will learn
more from this thread. <ggg>

Make It So,
Yousef

Assessment of Jerry's statement about the die fix.
"Design enhancements to increase the yield of higher-speed versions of the AMD-K6®-2 processor with 3DNow!(TM) technology have been successfully implemented," said W.J. Sanders, chairman and chief executive officer of AMD. "We will not, however, realize the benefits of the change in production output until the back half of the current quarter."

Previously, at the Q4 conference call, Jerry had said the faster chips would not be available "until February." I suspect, AMD implemented both a late layer change on chips already in production, and a "better" all-layers change. It appears that the late-layer-change-only-version was not too successful. Still, primarily the blame for this debacle rests squarely on Intel selling Celeron 400's for $90. An extra two weeks of high speed output makes little difference in ASP compared to doubling price cuts and moving them three weeks earlier. (by Intel)
