You are right, armed robbery is a violent crime, but I was sorta making a joke. You were saying that you think that non-violent criminals need to be protected from violent criminals, and I was saying that I perceive it as vice-versa. You may want people who kill to be executed, but it isn't going to happen, because most people who kill did not commit first degree murder, with the special circumstances which justify the application of the death penalty. In this country, we don't execute people who commit manslaughter, or even second degree murder. Anyway, most felons, as far as I know, are put into different prisons, or different places in prisons, depending on how dangerous they are - you know, minimum security, maximum security, stuff like that? Burglars have been known to kill homeowners when they were surprised in the act. So, no free pass to burglars. Shoplifters? You wouldn't think it was such a victimless crime if you knew how much is shoplifted every day. People who own their own businesses don't feel like it is a victimless crime to almost be put out of business by shoplifters. Embezzlers? Man, they are the worst, in my book. These are people that you trust, and they steal you blind. But, I put insurance fraud in the same category, including doctors that tell the insurance company you have something that is covered so they will get paid. And lawyers scam, too, I don't give lawyers a free pass either. Or corporations that manipulate their earnings to that their stock prices keep going up. Stealing is stealing. Theft is endemic in our society, and it is practiced by those at the top as well as by those at the bottom, and the justification is that "everyone does it." Isn't it?
