Re: "Now we hear that might not be the case as other "fixes" are needed ??" Yousef, you're confused. "THINK, MAN!": The mask fix worked just fine: 1) Gateway is using the 400 MHz parts. They wouldn't do it if AMD couldn't guarantee volume. 2) Kurlack thinks the fix has been made. ""With AMD just beginning to increase production of its 400 MHz part, the timing of Intel's price change seems to be an issue," Kurlak said." 3) Here's what AMD said today, since you apparently didn't read it the first time:dailynews.yahoo.com "Allen said that AMD's K6-3 chip, which will compete directly with Intel's upcoming Pentium III chip, is on schedule and should be in systems on retail shelves at the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter.... "''The likely outcome is that, in spite of the planned richer mix, we will be unable to increase our microprocessor average selling prices in the current quarter,'' W.J. (Jerry) Sanders, chairman and chief executive, said in a statement.... "AMD also said that, while it has completed the design enhancements to increase the volume production of its K6-2 processor with advanced multimedia functions, it will not realize the benefits of the production change until the second half of the first quarter." The PRODUCTION CHANGE that AMD is referring to is the switch to volume manufacturing of the K6-3, Youseless! Kevin PS As far as our bet is concerned, don't you think it would be pretty sad if the "process expert" were to lose that one? I'll be laughing at you for weeks if you lose. And if you win--well it only costs me a case of beer, since I've never professed to be a process "expert". Bad bet on your part, I'd say. <GGG>
