J.S. - as for etrade what i would suggest is to keep a written journal of trades. a nice notebook with entries carried across and complete notes. etrade calls i have made have varied from indifference of the technicians to ones who truly seem to care. the one today was very good but it sounded like he is going to have a three martini night. (maybe 5) i cant blame him for the systems problems and i need to accept the blame for not finding a better alternative. i am setting up another account and as i build my base of trading capital i will eventually be trading hopefully with watley or another firm which will be a real tick trading system. as of now i am using etrade when they are up and have their level II system which has been a joke because it took me 3 faxes, 2 letters 8 phone calls and a lot of cursing under my breath to get. remember that is is not a free level II system. they offer it as an incentive to get you to trade with them and if their system is down what damn good is it anyway. what is the old saying? Free advise is worth as much as you pay for it. Free level II ain't been free today. i can document a five thousand loss because of inability to trade with them today. not imaginary. here is an example.

put in a limit order on PQT @ 4 9/16 limit
it was 4 5/16 at the time.
waited 15 minutes - no confirmation
checked the price of stock and went to 5
i went back and entered a market buy order for PQT
their system went down
when it came back up i found out they filled at 7 1/2
stock went down to 6 1/4 at days end.

LOST ALMOST $2,000 ON THAT ORDER WITH NOT BEING FILLED.

JBOH bought tuesday at 4 1/2
somehow it was taken away from me @ 4 1/8 on tuesday and i still have no confirmations of the order fill or a sell.
today stock was at 24 where i could have sold
that was 200 shares which was at least a 15 point loss
minimum of a $3,000 loss on that.

Now with Watley or another realtick system my cost would have been higher but there on just those two trades was a loss of $5,000

I am not going to bore you with the balance of the tale. I have documented 9 other f***ups of the AOL of online brokers. AOL was successfully sued in a class action suit. It forced them to clean up their act. Made them a better company. Time for etrade to be on the receiving end. I am awfully sore after the you know what i took today.

JS....I used to defend E-trade as well. And from the stories I read here and elsewhere, I have been pretty lucky. If you use market orders twice a month to buy and sell shares of GE, and you place the orders at night, and you don't care if you lost or gained a buck.....e-trade is great for that.

Their shortcoming is in the very area they promote.....active trading during periods when the market is open.

It's not a matter of *IF* you will get burned on an E-trade transaction, but *WHEN*.

BTW, how's that e-trade stock coming??????<g>
