But Net Delivery is a 'Private Concern'
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CANADA POST CORPORATION and CEBRA SIGN NETDELIVERY TO DEVELOP ELECTRONIC POST OFFICE BOX™
EDM technology to enable electronic delivery service TORONTO - Canada Post Corporation (CPC) and Cebra, Inc., a subsidiary of Bank of Montreal, signed a long-term, multi-faceted contract with NETdelivery Corporation to develop the Electronic Post Office (EPO) service for Canada. The EPO will provide Canadian businesses and consumers with the ability to receive all types of mail and pay their bills on the Internet.
NETdelivery was chosen as the technology partner for the alliance between CPC and Cebra because of its unique electronic delivery technology and its leadership position in the market. NETdelivery was selected after an extensive evaluation of technology vendors and their solutions.
NETdelivery developed and patented its Electronic Delivery Management (EDM) technology to enable the secure delivery of personalized data and other electronic information. With the EDM offering, NETdelivery Corporation has become a leader in electronic business solutions and especially in the electronic billing and payment services.
The controlled launch of EPO will begin in early 1999 and includes eight major Canadian mailers and several thousand consumers. A general launch of the service is scheduled for later that year.
The Electronic Post Office Box (EPOB) will provide Canadian citizens with the ability to view all mail, including bills, personal mail, ad-mail, financial invoices, government mailings and electronic forms. Users will also be able to pay their bills directly from the service or through their financial institution's online banking facility.
"We chose NETdelivery as the enabling technology provider for the service because of their expertise with electronic delivery," says Bill Robertson, General Manager, Electronic Services for Canada Post. "Our goal is to extend the security, integrity, privacy and accessibility of the physical mail service to the electronic medium. This technology will help us do that."
"The Electronic Post Office leverages the extensive e-commerce capabilities of NETdelivery's EDM," according to Dick Stranger, CEO of NETdelivery Corporation. "EDM is designed to deliver a wide variety of documents over the Internet and is an excellent fit for the electronic delivery of mail and payment of bills."
The Electronic Post Office, using EDM as its core technology platform, will provide secure electronic mail delivery through a universally accessible system, maintaining the sanctity of the mail and protecting the privacy of recipient information. The service also ensures the privacy, integrity and high security standards currently enjoyed through the traditional postal service.

When CheckFree enters the Canadian Market like Pete said in the prior conference call they were trying to do...there will be a Market. But right now what going on is talk and plans....I'm more into what they do..then what they say they are going to do. So the Jury is out IMO. |
