And check out this tidbit from this week's Aviation Week article on VR helmets:

"Proposed vestibular sensors placed behind each ear would stimulate the eighth cranial nerve during [aircraft] maneuvering. This would create a compelling sensation of roll the user feels rather than sees, overriding normal vestibular inputs, the [Office of Naval Research] report said. As envisioned, this technology would lower workload on the pilot's visual channel and reduce spatial disorientation during poor visibility." TALK ABOUT YOUR BASIC CYBORG!

If the sense of balance and perception of motion can be manipulated this way, I wonder if the Virtual Motion device (maybe it is what the report is talking about) can be used to help avoid some of the disorientation that might happen to users of VRD in the opaque mode.
