You tend to ride a little longer when the money is play money.

I don't look for a certain percent, but, when using my own money, I stay with it until I see a stall at the top of the run and a decline set in. I'll take whatever she will give me. I find that I get out too early sometimes, but I still get large gains. Once you have a feel for the emotion driving the price, you get a feel for whether you want to trade it for one day or watch it for several days. Good news day traders tend to mark the top when they leave because they take a lot of the impetus out of the volume when they are gone. Only the latecomers are left and they soon start looking for exits when they realize the early birds got all the goodies.
