Thanks This seems to me a description of methodology used to optomize performance in TELCO switching. There is some interesting research around emulating "ants" which lay down chemical clues as to where the food/path is located. I forget where the thread is, but since you took it back to the technical, it may be unique but is oriented around agent mobility. There are other approaches, it may not lock in exclusivity in terms of sales. Also, the technology was licensed, not the product. Investment to get to the technology may not be correlated with profit expectations on sales. But then again it may.
