Petz - Re: "Do you use a Xeon server to find them? "

No - I have a K7/Slot A prototype server - fast - damn fast !

Re: " But what is the relevance of a 1997 PROJECTION to
a cost analysis"

My point is that you make these analyses OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN - and invariably they are ALL WRONG.

You just don't have a good track record.

John, RE: 1)variable cost per CPU for Intel is $61.54. This is above the ASP for Celeron
300A's and Celeron 333's and Celeron 366's by the end of the quarter. THE
MORE OF THESE INTEL MAKES, THE LOWER THEIR PROFITS.

So what you're really saying is, since AMD is selling chips for 25% less than Intel and Intel sells at cost - AMD must be "dumping". Isn't that illegal? ....Perhaps it also explains why AMD pre-announced again....

Petz, I doubt that you can have the whole complicated picture of Intel figured out. There are way too many variables, way too many assumptions that you have to make.

Let's put it this way. If your analysis was dead-on-balls accurate, Intel will hire you in an instant and pay you the combined salary of all the bean counters that is currently employed. The whole financial picture of Intel cannot be boiled down to an 8th grade problem solving homework assignment, but that is exactly what you are basing your conclusions on.
