SNET just doesnt do it. Its usually the last screen at which Traders at market makers look to ,regardless of manning rules, and SOES, well , we all know how well that works.

Yup, I know (to my pain). This is why I don't trade anything that moves real fast, even with RT3. For slower stocks, I have used SOES about 50% of the time. When that doesn't work, ISLD about the other half (if there is ISLD depth on the selling side). SNET has been pretty much useless for me. Haven't had ARCA, but I've heard that can be dog slow too...

I suspect that the direct-entry firms can't get access to the market-makers auto-ex systems because the big nasdaq firms won't trade with them unless they have to?

I don't think payment for order flow is patently wrong- as long as it is disclosed, and used in the best interest of the customer orders.
