Multiple accounts

I don't believe there is any way to mix or blend accounts from different firms. In fact transfer of stocks can take weeks.

I use 2 firms, AB Watley & Schwab, 5 accounts, 3 computers, 2 phone lines, 2 L2 & quotes, DTN by satellite & Realtick from ABW by phone.

My experience is that none of these retail firms is or will be adequate when the market crushes. You may be able to get short in one of them to help offset your longs, just to try to neutralize the damage of a big down day.

I would keep your e-trade acct, and add another. E trade has had its big scare, and now will be upgrading more aggressively than others.
