Jeff:

CD Radio will use some elliptical Molniya kind of hula-hoop-in-action sort of inclined orbit. Orbital engineers chime in anytime. I didn't pay attention in orbital mechanics class--oh wait, I didn't have an orbital mechanics class. Apogee in CD radio's case may very well be at the GEO orbit level, making it geostationary for a fleeting moment, but in reality, not.

Jeff, Valueman: here's your chance to answer "dumb question of the month". I have recently been down to the Ventura/Santa Barbara area on business. Several trips with more coming. Important that I get a grip on area economics/demographics so I've been reading lots of stuff along that line. OK here goes. Why, with launch capacity tighter than a drum and the Russians not able to find their butts with both hands, isn't Vandenberg AFB employing gillions of scientists/technicians and setting off the biggest economic boom ever to hit this pretty little area? It's not as if you have to apologize for recruiting workers to the joint--some of the most beautiful beaches and nicest climate in the world. Economic growth around here has been okay but nothing to write home about. I'd think the local pols would be most interested in helping out. Seriously, why doesn't this place take off? Why shouldn't we be able to do business within the U.S. and let all the TSA's/political B.S. go pound. Too simplistic huh? Mike Doyle
