SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 4, 1999--3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that it has achieved "Level II" approval from Home Network for both its Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and cable modems. This technical milestone rates system stability and integration with Home's high-speed data network. Level II approval is a significant step toward enabling the wide-scale deployment of the 3Com(R) C able Modem Termination System and the company's cable modems among Home Network affiliates.

3Com is the only system manufacturer to have both its CMTS and consumer cable modem certified by Home Network.

"This is a significant step as we deploy 3Com's cable access system nationwide with TCI and other Home partners," said Levent Gun, vice president and general manager of 3Com's Cable Access Group. "An endorsement from Home Network has meaning around the world , and 3Com is pleased to meet this benchmark of system readiness."

I understand what you're saying but to judge a company on its past history can be dangerous. The drop was based on absorbing USRX and now that the giant has been digested, the horizon looks quite good.

There was a point in Intel's history the same complaints could have been made.

I'm looking ahead.

>>While you are certainly right in theory that it is the 3/5 year horizon that matters, the
problem is that unless you watch closely you can end up like the 3com holders of three
years ago who have watched the stock drop from 80 to 35 while the market has
screamed.<<

IMO, any tech stock has to be watched constantly. Even MSFT,
INTC, and DELL can have a bad quarter easily. And when they do,
they will drop like lead balls because their valuations are
so d*mn high.

So, this is not just a 3Com phenomenon, it's all tech.

But, otoh, COMS has been getting it together, and a bet in
COMS is a bet in the network sector. I believe there is a big future
in the internet. We are in the midst of
a network shakeout, but eventually we will see boom times galore,
IMO, with respect to the Internet and Networking sector.

That's why I'm in COMS.
