McDATA Announces Vendor Partner Relationships with Emulex, Jaycor And Crossroads, Providing Bridges and Host Bus Adapters for McDATA's Fibre Channel FabricPak Solutions BROOMFIELD, Colo., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- McDATA Corp., the Enterprise Fibre Channel company, announced the forming of vendor partner relationships with Emulex Corp., Jaycor Networks, Inc. and Crossroads Systems, Inc. Under the agreements, these companies supply customized host bus adapters and a Fibre Channel-to-SCSI bridge for the world's most advanced and comprehensive Fibre Channel switched fabric solutions -- McDATA FabricPaks(TM). Comprised of services plus integrated hardware and software, McDATA FabricPak solutions are the first complete offerings for implementing Fibre Channel networks (i.e., SANs or ESNs) and helping businesses quickly realize the benefits of data and server consolidation. SCSI-to-Fibre Channel Bridge Since the June announcement of FabricPak solutions, McDATA made a significant feature enhancement, adding the EB-1200 Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge, which connects SCSI devices to the Fibre Channel network. This bridge lets users preserve their investments in SCSI disk and tape devices while gaining the benefits of a Fibre Channel network for improved IT resource consolidation. McDATA's EB-1200 Fibre Channel-to-SCSI Bridge provides high-speed connectivity for data transfers between the McDATA ED-5000 Enterprise Fibre Channel Director and two UltraSCSI buses. It seamlessly connects peripheral devices that were once out of reach to Fibre Channel networks. The EB-1200 Bridge is designed for McDATA by vendor partner Crossroads Systems, Inc. Storage Resource Security Another significant enhancement to McDATA FabricPak solutions is a layered, flexible approach to storage resource security. When multiple servers are connected to a centralized, shared storage or tape pool with a Fibre Channel network, individual volumes within the pool must be protected to prevent one server from inadvertently overwriting the data another server has written. McDATA and its partners have solved this problem with three levels of security: port zoning at the Director level, persistent binding of host bus adapters to specific volumes at the LUN level, and volume management at the server level to control access to shared volumes. Host Bus Adapters and Drivers Persistent binding is implemented in host bus adapter drivers (HBA) co- developed by McDATA and the HBA vendors. Members of McDATA's Systems Interoperability Lab worked closely with HBA engineers to implement persistent binding with robust connectivity using McDATA's industry-leading Fibre Channel Director. The Jaycor FibreStar(TM) SBus Host Bus Adapter provides reliable, high- speed connections for the McDATA FabricPak for Sun Consolidation. The SBus adapter features integrated 64-bit performance and fully supports persistent binding. The Emulex LightPulse(TM) LP7000 PCI Host Bus Adapter uses a state-of-the art, on-board memory architecture to provide high-performance for McDATA's FabricPak for NT Consolidation. It also supports persistent binding with an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
