Raymond I am one of those people on the Qcom thread. I will explain my reason's. Though Qcom investor's view Ericy as the "Dark Force" this attitude does not reflect upper management. Irwin Jacobs(Accourding to GPowers) has no animosity towerds Ericcson at all. He feel's they are a shrewd competitor and are doing what is in the best interest of their shareholder's. Why would Ericy take over Q's infastructure?. It is based on a fundimental assumption that Qcom loyalist's and Ericy loyalist's disagree on. Is WCDMA really different from CDMA/CDMA2000(except for chip rate and other small anomolies). If you feel they are not(as Qcomers would have you believe)
Then Ericy joint venture is a win-win situation. It get's Ericy into CDMA infastructure market. It gets WCDMA/CDMA2000 dispute resolved because Ericy would be on the same side as Qcom. It get's the whole 3G mess resolved, Ericy look's like a hero, and none of it's customers get anymore irritated(DOMoCO). The money in CDMA is in the infastructure business not the handset business, Ericy has made money in GSM in infastructure not Handset's. They would have a huge headstart over NOKIA and other Europhone companies, and have the real creator's of the Technology as their partner.
As for Qcom they would get resolution to 3G and a huge market to liscence and sell ASIC's to. They would get Ericy's great PR and sales team to sell CDMA(which they have not done to well at). They would get a huge bounce up in their market cap, and a big partner to help them compete.

By the way Qcom's Infastructure is at breakeven accourding to latest CC for this year. Maybee the reason for the restructuring was to make it a more palatable division to sell or JV. Qcom CDMA and ERICY marketing would be an unbelievable force. If it happened I would by as many shares as I could in good consionce. I think it's a long shot, but there are great reason's for Ericy shareholder's to view this as positive also.

Csco needs a telecoms vendor. John Chambers have already tried partnering with Nortel and Lucent without success. (He told that in an interview with Interactive Week.) If Cisco is going to play in the telephony arena it needs an established telecom vendor. The time I wrote that in the CSCO Thread people were not exaclty kind to me there. But I stand by that, CSCO will partner with a telecom vendor. Siemens already has the Newbridge Alliance, Nortel has Bay, Lucent has Ascend. Remains only Alcatel and ERICY. I will keep my antennas (oops!!) up.
