EMC CORP. QUALIFIES EMULEX FIBRE CHANNEL HOST ADAPTER FOR CONNEC

trix Fabric Environment; LightPulse LP7000E Selected for Use With Windows NT Servers
Business Editors & High-Tech Writers
COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 1999--Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq:EMLX), an industry leader in fibre channel technology and products, Monday announced that the LightPulse(TM) LP7000E Host Bus Adapter has been qualified by EMC Corp. (NYSE:EMC) for use in Enterprise Storage Networks (ESNs) based on EMC's new Connectrix(TM) systems.
Connectrix, a key element of EMC's Fibre Channel-based ESN solution, offers highly available and highly scalable switched Fibre Channel (FC-SW) connections between EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and distributed servers. EMC, a world leader in intelligent enterprise storage systems and software, has qualified the LP7000E for use in Windows NT environments.
Designed to support mission-critical enterprise applications, the LP7000E provides a unique combination of features, including full fabric support using F_Port and FL_Port connections, high data integrity, support for all fibre channel topologies, and support for service classes 2 and 3. The LP7000E also features sophisticated hardware that provides superior performance in storage area networks, delivering low latency and high throughput in switched, loop and clustered environments. "The combination of Emulex and EMC products and expertise provides customers highly reliable and scalable solutions for consolidating, sharing, protecting and managing all the information distributed across their enterprises," said Robert Dutkowsky, EMC's executive vice president of Markets and Channels. "Today's announcement, together with Emulex's charter membership in the EMC-sponsored FibreAlliance, demonstrates both companies' commitment to delivering to the market high-performance, standards- based storage network solutions." "We are pleased to announce the qualification of the LP7000E by EMC for use in EMC's Connectrix ESN systems. EMC is a recognized leader in enterprise storage solutions and continues to strengthen its position with the success of its Fibre Channel products," stated Mike Smith, senior director of marketing for Emulex. "Emulex's objective is to continue to provide its customers with high performance Fibre Channel products that are qualified by the leading suppliers of SAN products to enhance interoperability and ease of integration," he added.
Emulex provides the richest Fibre Channel software support available in the industry. The LP7000E is compatible with custom drivers written to Emulex's "Service Level Interface" (SLI) API specification, and is supported by drivers for a wide range of operating systems.
In addition to support for Windows NT, Emulex provides drivers for Solaris, AIX, UnixWare and NetWare operating systems. The LP7000E provides support for storage protocol (SCSI), network protocol (IP), as well as multi-protocol (SCSI & IP) operation, enabling advanced storage area network, clustering and network applications.
The LP7000E is part of a broad family of fibre channel products offered by Emulex to address the needs of both mission-critical enterprise applications and direct connect storage links. The Emulex fibre channel family also includes our high-performance LP8000 host bus adapter, our price-performance optimized LP3000 host bus adapter and the industry's first digital re-timing hub, the LH5000 series.
