Good news for PQT!!microcap1000.com IDEAS & TRENDS Friday, February 05, 1999 Richard Hefter,Editor Ticker on the Move for PC Quote What's going on with PC Quote? On Tuesday the stock was at 2 7/8. On Wednesday it finished at 4 7/16. Yesterday it closed at 6 7/16. This from a stock that hasn't traded above 5 since late 1996. "Our entire segment has been very much in favor the last few days," explained John Juska, the company's CFO. The segment to which he refers, online financial services, has indeed been very much in favor -- but not only in the last few days. According to Reuters, investors funneled a record number of trades through the Internet in the fourth quarter, helping cyberspace brokerages average 340,000 trades per day, up 34% from the third quarter. The rush of money has pushed many stocks to new highs, including shares of brokers through whom the trades are funneled. E-Trade, for example, the #3 Internet brokerage, has seen its stock price soar 11-fold in the last four months to a record high 112.50 on January 29, after which it split 2 for 1. As online brokers like E-Trade grow, their suppliers of market quotes and data - the PC Quotes of the world - grow with them, notes Juska. But he also says that internal changes, namely new management that came on board in 1997, are helping turn around the company. In November, the company announced a significant reduction in its loss for the third quarter ended September 30, 1998 versus the prior year. The loss for the third quarter of 1998 was $911,055, or 7 cents per share, versus a loss of $2.3 million, or 31 cents, for the same period in 1997. "We are definitely headed in the right direction as our revenue enhancement and cost containment efforts continue to improve our operating performance," Juska said. There is no analyst coverage, hence no estimates for what PC Quote will report its next quarterly statement, due out soon. But if the last few days are any indication, investors clearly are anticipating good signs. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
