TELESCAN SIGNS STRATEGIC AGREEMENT WITH PLAYBOY ONLINE TO DEVELOP CUSTOMIZED INVESTMENT CONTENT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HOUSTON, Friday, February 5, 1999

Telescan Inc. (Nasdaq: TSCN) today announced an agreement with Playboy Online to develop customized financial and investment information for Playboy.com, the business' advertising- and e-commerce-supported Web site. The new financial section for Playboy.com will offer a range of market information on stocks, options and commodities, market news, commentary and analysis, as well as quotes, portfolio analysis, company information and linkage to corporate Web sites.

David L. Brown, Telescan's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "We are pleased to join with Playboy to offer its Web-savvy customers the information and sophisticated market analysis they need to be successful investors and enable them to keep track of their financial performance. Playboy is the latest addition to Telescan's expanding list of premiere alliance partners who look to us for our Internet expertise in building and operating customized Web sites and our proprietary financial analytical tools."

The financial site will provide Playboy Online visitors with tools and content enabling them to stay current on market developments and corporate news as well as review personal portfolio performance. Among the key features Telescan will provide are personal e-mails alerting users to price changes, volume developments and news events concerning users' personal portfolio holdings.

"Playboy Online's affiliation with Telescan will significantly enhance the personal finance offerings on Playboy.com," said Buford Smith, president of Playboy Online. "This latest partnership is part of our continuing effort to make Playboy.com a major destination site on the Web. Not only can men come to our site to be entertained, and to buy music, books and other lifestyle products, but now they also will be able to track the stock market and manage their investments without leaving the site."

Under the agreement, Telescan will develop and manage the investment segment of the site, while Playboy will be responsible for marketing it. The firms will share advertising revenue generated by the section.

The section will offer some powerful financial tools. Among the graphs users will be able to create are: comparisons of up to ten stocks on a single graph; comparison of an individual stock's performance to its industry group; technical analysis using ten indicators including MACD, Wilder RSI and Stochastics Users, and multiple indices plotted on a single graph. In addition, the service will offer reports including: a summary of Vickers Insider Trading data presented on a graph with multiple links for further analysis; Zack's quarterly earnings reports; graphic portrayal of portfolio analysis with ratings for each security in the portfolio, as well as an overall portfolio rating along with proprietary Telescan Rankings.

Telescan, based in Houston, is an industry leader in providing innovative solutions for online technology, data retrieval and Internet services. The company develops and operates major online networks and Internet sites serving the financial, publishing, entertainment and technology-transfer industries.
