Check out this page on the XLNS web site. Interesting reading about business models...

xlnsresearch.com

It appears that XLNS is taking the approach of the Marginal Value Model which basically states that in order to penetrate the market, LNS suppliers should offer there technologies for little or no cost to the users in order to make it easier for engineers to utilize these technologies in next generation designs. The LNS suppliers will, subsequently, offer second generation products for fees to these users to utilize in future designs. Since LNS will already be part of existing designs, convincing users to use next generation products will be much easier...LNS will become part of the culture so to speak and possibly a standard.

This may be the best strategy, however, IMO if LGPT can convince one or two major companies to use their EFP, and if EFP proves to have considerable advantages of the current IEEE standard, the rest of the market should follow in applications that benefit from floating-point.

As a side note, I find it interesting that in LGPT's last news release that they are pursuing major financing to produce their own chips. This is an entirely different approach from simply supplying software math libraries and IP cores. Maybe LGPT WILL become the next INTC someday!! I'm looking forward to the ride!!!

GO LGPT!!!
