I was going to note that, but not many people on this thread seems to have the faintest grasp of reality, much less where Alaska gets a bunch of stuff. -g- Along with much of the Pacific islands.

The only way to Southeast Alaska is through Seattle and all the groceries, fuel, etc, comes by barge from Seattle. It seems that most Alaskans go shopping down south in Seattle a time or two a year - Washington doesn't charge sales tax for these purchases. And, Seattle's weather really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, at least compared to the some of the alternatives.
